Trusted smart controller installation in Holly Springs, NC

Smart controller installation means swapping your old dial timer for a weather-based controller — Rachio, Hunter Hydrawise, or Rain Bird — wired to your existing valves, configured zone by zone, and programmed from an app on your phone. Cary Sprinklers is the local team Holly Springs homeowners call for it, from 12 Oaks to the Bass Lake area. Same accountable crew every time, genuine parts, and a 12-month workmanship warranty behind the work.

Holly Springs gives an irrigation upgrade more payback than most Triangle towns. The Town offers a separate irrigation-only meter, so lawn water isn’t billed for sewer — and a smart sprinkler controller squeezes real savings out of that meter by skipping rain days and dialing back in fall. West of N.C. 55, some neighborhoods irrigate on reclaimed water, which changes how we set up zones and schedules. The soil is tight clay under fresh sod in most of these newer subdivisions, so long runtimes just send water down the curb; we program cycle-and-soak schedules that let the clay actually absorb it. And when the Town stages drought restrictions on drinking-water irrigation, a properly programmed controller keeps you compliant without you touching a thing.

We serve homeowners throughout Holly Springs — including 12 Oaks, Sunset Ridge, Holly Glen, and the Bass Lake area — and the surrounding Wake County area, and we’ve handled smart controller installation across the town for over a decade.

The pattern we see most in Holly Springs: a builder-installed timer in a 12 Oaks or Holly Glen garage, still on the default schedule from the day of closing, watering fresh sod so hard the runoff stripes the driveway. The clay under that sod can’t take long runtimes. A smart controller with cycle-and-soak programming fixes it in one visit.

Common smart controller installation problems we fix in Holly Springs

Big or small, we fix it right the first time with genuine Hunter, Rain Bird & Toro parts.

Watering in the rain

Nothing burns money like sprinklers running during a storm. A smart controller checks local weather and skips watering before and after rain automatically.

One schedule for every zone

Old timers run shady beds and full-sun sod the same. We build per-zone profiles — soil, plant type, nozzle — so each zone gets exactly what it needs.

Runoff on clay

Holly Springs’s tight clay can’t absorb a 20-minute soak; the water sheets to the curb. Smart controllers split runtimes into cycle-and-soak passes the clay can handle.

No control away from home

Traveling during a July dry spell with a dumb timer is a gamble. App control lets you check, adjust, or pause the system from anywhere.

Rules you can’t keep up with

Town watering restrictions change with drought stages, and most homeowners never reprogram. We set the controller to the Town’s rules so it’s compliant out of the box.

No idea where the water goes

A mystery water bill tells you nothing. Usage reporting shows gallons by zone, so leaks and overwatering show up in the app instead of on the bill.

Who needs smart controller installation in Holly Springs?

Smart controller installation calls in Holly Springs come from all over — new-construction sod in 12 Oaks, established systems around Sunset Ridge, and everything in between.

New-build homeowners

Builder-grade systems in newer Holly Springs subdivisions usually come with the cheapest timer available. Upgrading to a smart irrigation controller protects the sod investment and cuts the bill from year one.

Frequent travelers

If work or summer trips take you away for a week at a time, app control means the yard doesn’t depend on a neighbor. Check it, adjust it, or pause it from anywhere.

Bill watchers

Homeowners on the Town’s irrigation-only meter who still wince at summer statements are the classic case. Weather skips and per-zone tuning drop the gallons that meter records.

Rule followers

Some folks just want to know the system is doing the right thing when drought staging hits. We program compliance in, so the controller follows the Town’s rules without daily attention.

Signs you need smart controller installation in Holly Springs

If you notice any of these, it’s time for a look:

  • Sprinklers running during or right after rain
  • Summer water bills that jump even with an irrigation meter
  • Water streaming down the curb minutes into a cycle
  • Still walking to the garage to change the schedule
  • Not sure your schedule meets the Town’s current watering rules
  • New sod struggling while other zones stay soggy

Why smart controller installation pays off faster in Holly Springs

Holly Springs isn’t like the rest of the Triangle, and we work to what makes it different.

What Holly Springs homeowners should know

  • Irrigation-only meter: Holly Springs offers a separate irrigation meter so sprinkler water isn’t billed for sewer. A smart controller cuts the gallons on that meter, so the savings stack twice.
  • Reclaimed water west of N.C. 55: Some Holly Springs areas irrigate on reclaimed water, which clogs nozzles faster. We account for that in zone profiles and keep reclaimed lines properly separated.
  • Drought staging: The Town can limit drinking-water irrigation in dry spells. We program schedules that stay efficient and compliant when restrictions kick in, no reprogramming panic required.
  • Backflow program: Holly Springs runs a backflow-prevention program on irrigation connections. While we’re at your controller, we can test, repair, and file the paperwork so your account stays clear.

I’m so glad I found Cary Sprinklers! Adam, the owner, is incredibly friendly, honest, and straightforward. He found several problems with our sprinkler system and was able to fix them for a very reasonable price. We had other companies come out who tried to upsell us on repairs costing thousands of dollars, so the difference was unbelievable. I have some experience in this field myself, so I know how to evaluate vendors and recognize when someone is being honest and when they’re simply trying to sell you more work. Adam was clearly focused on actually solving the problems rather than taking advantage of us. He saved us a tremendous amount of money, and we really appreciate it. Thank you so much, Adam, for your honesty, professionalism, and excellent work. Highly recommended!

This is the second time we have used Cary Sprinklers, and both times involved dirty digging and repairing complex leaks. The first was an underground valve leak and they put the dirt and our sod back as if it was their own home. The site around our second job by our backflow was also filled in nicely. Adam the owner, Matt the estimator, and Colby the irrigation magician were all great to work with. We think our irrigation in our box came apart when TOC main busted and the extreme pressure of 200+ psi was too much. Matt did a thorough job looking at our issue, answering all my questions about the possible TOC main break playing a part, and giving quote for the time he felt it would take. Keep in mind, this is the type of small business where you need to be flexible on the time of arrival since prior jobs may put them behind. With this said, the crew will spend all the time needed to repair the issue you have at your home and not rush to make things just good enough. They want to make sure the repair is done to your satisfaction. I texted Adam several times and he had a prompt response time. He was also prompt via email with a post work invoice question. We recommend supporting Cary Sprinklers for the reasons above and because this is a small business growing roots in our community.

Adam and Gerald showed up right on time and kept me updated with texts the night before and the day of with their ETA. I needed a new zone added for part of the yard that wasn’t getting enough water anymore, and they did a great job. Fair pricing, excellent communication, and very professional — I’m really happy with the result.

5 stars — Highly recommend Cary Sprinklers! We hired Cary Sprinklers to expand our existing irrigation system by extending one zone and adding a completely new zone. From the beginning, they were professional, knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. What really impressed us was the equipment and efficiency. They used a Toro Dingo to trench the new lines, which allowed them to get the work done quickly and professionally while keeping the disruption to our yard to a minimum. The crew clearly knew what they were doing, and the installation was done right. Adam took the time to explain what we needed and why, and the communication throughout the project was excellent. The new zones give us much better coverage of the property, and everything is working exactly as it should. We couldn’t be happier with the finished system. The whole process was smooth, and the work exceeded our expectations. We would definitely use Cary Sprinklers again.

Cary Sprinklers is amazing. Adam is professional, capable, and wonderful to do business with. We called him because we had trouble with our timer app and controller. It wasn’t a brand that he usually works with, but he figured it out and fixed it anyway. Additionally, his team did an amazing job removing this massive root to get a broken sprinkler out of the ground and replace it and even under budget! I’ve done business with a few sprinkler companies in my lifetime, and these guys are the best!! They are honest, reliable, and very detail oriented. You will not be sorry if you call Cary Sprinklers.

Adam came out and made adjustments to several unfamiliar sprinkler heads that had been causing some lawn coverage issues. He worked quickly & efficiently to correct the issues to my satisfaction. A very good experience!

How our smart controller installation works

No mystery, no runaround — here’s the order we work in.

Evaluate your system

We look at your current controller, valve wiring, sensors, and zones, and talk through which brand fits — Rachio, Hunter Hydrawise, or Rain Bird.

Install and wire

We mount the new smart controller, transfer and label every zone wire, and connect any rain/freeze sensor so nothing gets lost in the swap.

Program every zone

Each zone gets its own soil, plant, and nozzle profile — tuned for clay and sod — plus schedules that match Holly Springs’s watering rules.

Test and hand off

We run every zone, verify the weather skip works, put the app on your phone, and walk you through it until you’re comfortable.

What sets a professional smart controller installation team apart in Holly Springs

Plenty of people can screw a controller to a garage wall; the value is in the programming. A professional smart controller installation team knows that a Rachio left on default settings waters Holly Springs clay like it’s Kansas loam — and the runoff proves it. We configure every zone’s soil, plant, and nozzle profile, set cycle-and-soak for the clay, and program the Town’s watering rules in from day one. We also know the local wrinkles: reclaimed zones west of N.C. 55, the irrigation-meter billing setup, the backflow program. And Adam stands behind every install with a 12-month workmanship warranty, so if something’s off, the same local team comes back and makes it right.

How long does smart controller installation take in Holly Springs?

A straightforward smart controller installation in Holly Springs usually takes a couple of hours — swap, wiring, zone programming, and a full test. Older systems with unlabeled wires or a failing sensor take a bit longer, and we’d rather sort that out on the spot than leave you guessing. The best time to schedule is early spring, before the first hot week, so the controller is dialed in when watering season starts. Fall works well too — you’ll head into winter with seasonal adjustment already handling the slowdown. That said, mid-summer is when most people call, and a smart sprinkler controller starts saving water the day it goes in.

How much does smart controller installation cost in Holly Springs?

Smart controller installation cost in Holly Springs depends on scope: the controller brand and zone count, whether your wiring and sensors are in good shape, and whether we’re adding a rain/freeze sensor while we’re there. We quote upfront — you approve the price before we start, and there are no surprise add-ons at the end. Estimates are free, and with the Town’s irrigation-only meter plus the water a smart irrigation controller stops wasting, most homeowners see the upgrade pay itself back faster here than elsewhere in the Triangle. If you’re searching smart controller installation near me and comparing quotes, call or text 919-341-9644 and we’ll give you a straight number for your system.

How to choose a smart controller installation company in Holly Springs

Choosing a smart controller installation company in Holly Springs comes down to a few direct questions. Ask who does the work — a consistent local team, or whoever’s available that week. Ask whether they program per-zone profiles for clay soil or just leave factory defaults running. Ask if they’ll set the schedule to Holly Springs’s watering rules and handle backflow paperwork if it comes up. And ask what happens if something fails in six months — we answer that one with a written 12-month workmanship warranty and a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Serving Holly Springs neighborhoods

We install smart controllers all over Holly Springs — 12 Oaks, Sunset Ridge, Holly Glen, and the Bass Lake area. In 12 Oaks and other newer sections, it’s usually builder-grade timers on young sod over graded clay, where per-zone programming makes the biggest difference. Around Sunset Ridge and Bass Lake, systems are a little more established, so the job often includes sorting aging wiring and sensors while we’re at the controller. Either way, every install leaves with zones profiled, schedules set to Town rules, and the app running on your phone. Everything we do locally — every service, plus Holly Springs water rules and neighborhoods — is collected on our Holly Springs, NC page.

What makes Holly Springs different is the billing math. The Town’s irrigation-only meter already keeps lawn water off the sewer bill, and some areas west of N.C. 55 irrigate on reclaimed water — so a smart controller installation here compounds savings that other Triangle towns simply don’t offer. Few of our service towns pay the upgrade back this fast.

A smart controller works best on a well-built system — if yours needs bigger changes, see our sprinkler installation in Holly Springs page. For controller details across town, start at the smart controllers hub.

Some jobs deserve their own deep dive — see our pages on system upgrade & revamp, pressure regulation & water savings for the full detail on how we handle each across Holly Springs.

Why Holly Springs chooses us for smart controller installation

01

Programmed for Holly Springs, not the factory default

We set every zone for tight clay, fresh sod, and the Town’s watering rules — including reclaimed considerations west of N.C. 55. That local tuning is where the savings actually come from.

02

Genuine parts, real brands

We install genuine Rachio, Hunter Hydrawise, and Rain Bird equipment — no off-brand controllers that lose app support in two years. If a part fails, replacements are a phone call away.

03

One accountable local team

No rotating crews and no call center. Adam stays close to every job, and the same team that installs your controller answers the phone at 919-341-9644 afterward, backed by a 12-month workmanship warranty.

Holly Springs smart controller installation FAQ

How much does smart controller installation cost in Holly Springs?

It depends on the controller brand, your zone count, and the condition of your existing wiring, so we quote each job upfront after a quick look. No invented numbers over the phone and no surprises on the invoice. Call or text 919-341-9644 for a free estimate.

Will a smart controller work with my existing sprinkler system?

Almost always, yes. Rachio, Hunter Hydrawise, and Rain Bird controllers wire straight to your existing valves, and we transfer and label every zone during the swap. If a valve or wire run has a problem, we’ll find it during installation and tell you before touching it.

Do smart controllers really lower water bills on Holly Springs clay?

Yes — clay is where they help most. Long runtimes on tight clay send water straight to the curb, so skipping rain days and splitting cycles into soak passes cuts real gallons. Pair that with Holly Springs’s irrigation-only meter and the savings show up on the next bill.

Will my new controller follow Holly Springs’s watering rules?

That’s part of every smart controller installation we do. We program schedules that comply with the Town’s rules, including drought staging when the Town limits drinking-water irrigation. If your home irrigates on reclaimed water west of N.C. 55, we set the system up for that too.

Which brand should I pick — Rachio, Hydrawise, or Rain Bird?

All three are solid, and we install genuine equipment from each. The right pick depends on your zone count, Wi-Fi setup, and how hands-on you want the app to be. We’ll walk through the differences at the estimate and give you a straight recommendation, not an upsell.

Does a smart controller make the Town’s irrigation-only meter worth getting?

For most Holly Springs lawns, yes — the two work together. The irrigation meter keeps sprinkler water off your sewer bill, and the smart controller shrinks the gallons that meter records by skipping rain and tuning each zone. If you don’t have the meter yet, ask us about it during your smart controller installation and we’ll point you to the Town’s process.
